'Success is like reaching an important birthday and finding you’re exactly the same'
My initial brief was to create an original solo on a topic requiring ‘an investigative approach to the creative and research process’, something I feel I have captured. My exploration into Hepburn's life has been incredibly inspiring and has taken my creative process in an unexpected direction. I knew the events Hepburn had faced, but I had never considered how this shaped her as a person, so I choreographed movement on all the contrasting aspects of her personality. By looking into different sources, and inferring my conclusions, I created a piece which was truly unique to me and concluded ‘What was important to Audrey Hepburn?’.
My last additions consisted mainly of the finale track. Initially, I had planned to create more, however, due to the investigative nature of the work, it needed a reflective conclusion. I, therefore, drew on my previous choreography, through repetition and the use of enlargement and elevation. Whilst working on the transformative devices, I saw how my choreographic style has changed; my research into Lopez Ochoa has taught me that movement rules are designed to inspire, and not confine. I have become less rigid with making every step true to the task but concentrate more on whether the movement helps me to convey my message or looks effective. I think this has brought maturity to my solo and is something I can carry forward.
My other last minute additions all responded to the feedback. For this please see below.
