'To Plant A Garden Is To Believe in Tomorrow'
My own creative preference involves generating movement by tasks, developing through choreographic devices, refining to form a piece, and finally layering in emotional intent to convey my theme. To begin this process I started to answer my objective question, utilising my research. I created tasks to communicate how Hepburn valued being true to herself (Windley, 2017) (figure 1), her desire to be a mother (Miller, 2016) (figure 2), how during the war what was most important was survival (Bibel, 2019) (figure 3), how Hepburn dedicated her later life to charities (figure 4) (Audrey Hepburn, 2016), and Hepburn’s principles, which I identified through quotes (Hepburn, A., n.d.) (figure 5).
Lopez Ochoa altered how I initiated choreographing. She inspired me to look directly to my question (King Ferraro and Sean Breeden, 2019), instead of choreographing around a theme, which gave me a purpose. She has spoken (King Ferraro and Sean Breeden, 2019) of how she is never happy with her work, but accepts this, and by adopting this mindset I alleviated self-inflicted pressure and create movement organically. Like Lopez Ochoa, I believe the most successful work is made when you are open to mistakes and do not judge the outcome (The Joyce Theater, 2019). She views (King Ferraro and Sean Breeden, 2019) her most simplistic work as the most effective in reaching the viewers' emotions, and so after creating I will review the work and experiment with stripping it back to the essence. Finally, Lopez Ochoa never over prepares, believing that the work is in front of her (The Joyce Theater, 2019). This will be a challenge to implement, but I will try to restrain from being too specific in my ideas.
